COVID-19: Evangel University vows to graduate students on record time – Prof Kalu

The Vice Chancellor, Evangel University, Akaeze in Ebonyi State, Professor Iche Ukpai Kalu has vowed that students of the University would graduate on record time despite the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in the country.

Kalu made the assertion in a telephone conversation with TIMELY POST on the assessment of electronic teaching introduced by the institution, pointing out that lectures for the second semester had since begun with students already inclined with the online applications for teaching and learning.

He informed that Evangel University, Akaeze remains one of the faith based Universities that sees the interest of the students as a major priority, adding that the University is ever prepared to offer total education for the total man and called on all parents whose wards/children are students of the University to pay up their fees as the second semester examination would soon begin.

“Yes, I am very optimistic that the global pandemic cannot affect our students negatively; because our electronic learning platforms offer a wide range of opportunities for them to graduate on record time.

“Nobody was prepared for the challenge the world is facing now, but let me tell you that everybody has shifted upwards because corona virus is not an excuse for not realizing one’s dream and destiny in life.

“No doubt, there are challenges in the electronic learning, but we in Evangel University have resolved to overcome the challenges whatsoever and we are getting it right because collectively, we desire success in life, especially for our students.

“Yes, there are problems of network fluctuations, especially for students who reside in the hinterland, but we have made them to know that the courses taught online are the basic requirements they have to fulfill before graduation and network problem cannot be an excuse for failing to fulfill them.

“Lecture materials are uploaded on the University platforms where the students can downward them free of charge wherever they are. With this, they can read and prepare for their examinations if they fail to get all during the lecture period.

“Our academic staff have been doing their best and we encourage them to do more to achieve success in this critical period”, Kalu said.

He used the medium to announce that admission for the 2020/2021 in the institution has been declared, urging applicants who did not make Evangel University as first choice to revert to JAMB platform for change of course and institution, arguing that the university is at the vanguard of offering all-round education for the students.

He further said that applicant can visit www.evangeluniversity.edu.ng for further carification.

Professor Kalu however called on prospective applicants to use the fact that the University is the cheapest faith based University in the country; charging a paltry sum of N270, 000 or N250,000 to apply for admission into the various departments in the institution.

He maintained that College of Arts and Social Sciences of the institution has in it the Departments of English Language, Economics, History and International Relations, Mass Communication, Political Science and Theater Arts. College of Health Science houses the Departments of Nursing Science, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Radiation Science, Medical Laboratory and Public Health. College of Management Sciences also offer degree courses in the Departments of Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management and Marketing. College of Science has the Departments of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Industrial Chemistry, Computer Science, Industrial Mathematics, Microbiology and Physics with Electronics.

The erudite Professor of Estate Management and Valuation also called on all students and parents not to be deterred by the current global challenge, but use this period to make the best out of life.
